What to Expect from Your Solar Site Survey

Published: 09/06/2025 | Author: Volt-Age

Once you’ve received your tailored solar proposal from Volt-Age, the next step toward taking control of your energy future is a site survey. But what exactly does that involve—and why is it so important?

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is a Solar Site Survey?

A site survey is a professional visit from one of our experienced installers to assess the practical details of your solar installation. While desktop estimates are great for early-stage planning, nothing beats a hands-on look at your roof, your meter, and your cable routes to get things exactly right.

We’ll typically look at:

  • Roof structure and condition – To ensure it’s suitable for solar panel installation.

  • Shading – Checking for nearby trees, chimneys, or structures that might impact performance.

  • Roof pitch and orientation – Critical factors in your system’s energy yield.

  • Fuse board and electrics – To make sure everything is compatible and safe.

  • Cable routes – Identifying the most discreet, efficient paths for connecting your system.

  • Battery or EV charger locations – If you’re adding storage or going electric.

No Sales Pitch – Just Solid Advice

We’re not a call centre or sales team. There’s no cold calling, no pushy “sign today” offers, and no obligation.

The site survey is purely practical—an opportunity for us to check the details, answer your questions, and make sure everything’s safe, efficient, and designed to suit your property and usage.

We believe in friendly, professional service backed by solid technical knowledge—not pressure sales.

Why It Matters

Every home and business is different. The survey helps us:

  • Confirm the design and layout of your solar PV system

  • Spot any adjustments needed before installation day

  • Answer your questions in person—about the process, products, warranties or anything else

  • Give you confidence that everything will be installed safely, efficiently, and with care

Do I Need to Prepare?

Not really, but it helps if:

  • You can be present for a quick chat with the installer

  • You have a copy of your energy bill handy (if you haven’t sent it already)

  • Access to the loft and fuse board is clear

We’ll handle the rest.

What Happens After?

Within a few days, we’ll confirm the final system design, quote, and schedule. If there are any tweaks to the equipment or layout, we’ll explain them clearly—and you’re always free to ask for alternatives or clarifications.

Most of our clients find this step hugely helpful—it’s where everything starts to feel real, and many tell us it was the moment they felt confident pressing ‘go’.
