In a sector as energy-intensive as industrial heat treatment, energy costs can quickly escalate. That’s why Heat Treatment 2000, a leading business based in West Bromwich, turned to Volt-Age for a smart, sustainable solution to support their operational goals and environmental commitments.
The company was facing significant electricity demands, consuming around 1.9 million kWh annually. Seeking to reduce reliance on the grid and future-proof their energy strategy, they partnered with Volt-Age to explore commercial solar power as a long-term investment.
The Solution
After in-depth analysis and careful planning, Volt-Age installed a high-performance solar PV system tailored to the site’s structure and energy profile. The system comprises 170 solar panels connected to Solis S5 string inverters, collectively delivering 93.5 kW of clean energy. Every detail, from panel orientation to inverter capacity, was considered to ensure optimal year-round performance.
What made this project particularly strategic was the deliberate choice to keep the system just below the 95 kW threshold. This decision helped avoid triggering additional National Grid approvals that could have delayed the installation by months. Instead, the team moved forward efficiently while still achieving strong generation capacity for the site.
Real Results
The system is now generating over 83,000 kWh of clean electricity annually—enough to offset a meaningful portion of the facility’s usage. While that equates to about 4–5% of their total demand, it’s a crucial first step toward greater sustainability.
Over time, the benefits stack up. The carbon offset is equivalent to planting thousands of trees or avoiding hundreds of long-haul flights. For a manufacturing site with continuous operations, that’s a remarkable environmental win.
Communication is Key
One of the most important lessons from this project was the importance of transparency. Given the client’s high energy consumption, Volt-Age worked closely with Heat Treatment 2000 to set realistic expectations about solar output and return on investment. By fostering that clarity from the start, the project has delivered exactly what was promised—and laid the groundwork for potential future expansions.
Forward Thinking in British Industry
This installation is a shining example of how forward-thinking businesses in the West Midlands are embracing solar to tackle rising energy costs, reduce their carbon impact, and stay competitive. With the right advice and a smart design, even sites with massive energy appetites can begin the journey to energy independence.
